The South Taranaki District Council has a great database, covering cemeteries in Eltham, Hawera, Kaponga, Manaia, Okaiawa, Opunake, Otakeho, Patea, Ohawe and Waihi. The Council also owns the land for the Waverley, Manutahi, Pihama (Lizzie Bell), Warea and Rahotu cemeteries and the Armed Constabulary Cemetery at Opunake Lake. The historically significant Waihi Cemetery was re-opened for burials in August 2001. It is possible to trace some of South Taranaki's significant historic developments through cemeteries like Waihi.
